Brest strike early, Lille answer after the break
Brest made the sharper start in the 20:45 kick-off on 17 October 2026. Their first corner arrived in the fifth minute, and the set piece soon produced the breakthrough. Gautier Lloris saw an initial attempt blocked, but the ball returned to him and his pass found Baldé centrally. The forward finished low into the left corner to put the visitors ahead.
Lille had possession and territory but struggled to turn either into a clear opening before half-time. Maxima Goffi sent efforts wide in the 17th and 34th minutes, while Dilane Bakwa, Romain Perraud and Benjamin André also missed the target. Brest threatened again from a Joris Chotard corner, with Lloris heading wide, and later had another Lloris header blocked.
Doumbia received Brest’s first yellow card after 13 minutes for a dangerous challenge. Brest then changed at the interval, sending Joseph Nonge on for Baldé.
Lille resumed with greater urgency. André had a close-range header stopped after Bakwa’s delivery from a 50th-minute corner, before Nianzou headed over from the subsequent pressure. Giroud was denied at the right-hand post in the 56th minute after Mbappé crossed from the right.
The equaliser came after 63 minutes. Mbappé was brought down inside the area by Locko, who had earlier been booked for dangerous play. Giroud stepped up and drove his left-footed penalty high into the left side of the goal.
Late Lille pressure cannot break Brest
Lille used their bench after levelling, with Nabil Bentaleb and Soriba Diaoune replacing André and Bakwa in the 65th minute. Calvin Verdonk had already come on for Perraud, while Maurits Kjærgaard later replaced Ngal’ayel Mukau.
Brest also refreshed their side, bringing on Ibrahim Kanté for Pathé Mboup in the 77th minute and Mamady Diambou for Doumbia five minutes later. The visitors had openings of their own: Bradley Locko shot narrowly wide from distance in the 69th minute, while Kanté fired over and later forced a save from the right of the Lille area.
Yet the closing phase belonged largely to Lille. Bentaleb twice tested Brest from outside the box, Kjærgaard dragged a left-footed effort narrowly wide after Hákon Haraldsson’s pass, and Goffi headed just over from a corner. Lille won a series of late corners, with Kenny Lala repeatedly clearing the danger.
In stoppage time, Nianzou was denied from point-blank range after Nathan Ngoy headed the ball into his path, while Bentaleb’s final left-footed strike was blocked. Verdonk was cautioned in the 90th minute for a dangerous foul, but Brest survived the four added minutes to preserve the point.
