Guardians Set 26-Man ALDS Roster for White Sox Series

The Guardians have settled on their 26 players for the American League Division Series against the White Sox, keeping the September core intact while leaving a couple of injured veterans outside the postseason room.

Cleveland’s ALDS roster takes shape

  1. Cleveland finalized its Division Series roster on Saturday with 14 position players and 12 pitchers.
  2. The club largely carried over its September group, trimming right-handers Slade Cecconi and Austin Peterson as the roster contracted by two spots for the postseason.
  3. Game 1 is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET (noon CT), with coverage on TBS, truTV, UniMas and HBO Max.
  4. Parker Messick is lined up for the opener, followed by Gavin Williams in Game 2.
  5. The Game 3 assignment remains undecided. Tanner Bibee, Joey Cantillo, Foster Griffin and Daniel Espino, who could serve as an opener, are among the available choices.

Injuries keep Hoskins and Holderman out

First baseman Rhys Hoskins was not included after lower-back inflammation sent him to the injured list on Aug. 19. The 33-year-old did not return before the regular season ended.

Right-hander Colin Holderman also missed the cut because of inflammation in his right wrist. Holderman has said his postseason will not include a return to the mound, and he expects surgery to resolve the issue that has lingered.
