Haiti Crush Santo Domingo Hosts to Keep Pace with Curaçao

Santo Domingo’s Estadio Olímpico Félix Sánchez carried more Haitian voices than Dominican ones as Haiti swept to a 4-1 Concacaf Nations League win, a result that keeps them level on nine points with group leaders Curaçao.

Haiti were sharper in both penalty areas and made their early control count through Deedson, before Wilson Isidor struck twice and Yassin Fortuné completed the scoring. The Dominican Republic briefly gave themselves hope through Dorny Romero, but could not sustain their second-half response.

Quick facts

  • Result: Dominican Republic 1-4 Haiti
  • Venue: Estadio Olímpico Félix Sánchez, Santo Domingo
  • Haiti scorers: Deedson, Wilson Isidor (2), Yassin Fortuné
  • Dominican Republic scorer: Dorny Romero
  • Haiti have nine points and sit second behind Curaçao on goal difference.

Providence created the opening goal from the left, threading a ball into the area for Deedson to finish. The hosts struggled to establish possession or construct attacks against a Haitian side that defended its own half compactly before breaking quickly after turnovers.

There was a chance for Haiti to extend the margin in the 23rd minute, but Xavier Valdez saved Isidor’s penalty to the delight of the home support. Isidor then missed another opening after Bellegarde won the ball and supplied him in the middle of the box, with the forward shooting over.

The Dominican Republic returned after the interval with greater urgency, only for Haiti to double their advantage in the 51st minute. Sainté’s free-kick struck the crossbar after heading towards the upper-left corner, and Isidor reacted to the rebound.

Romero pulled one back with a left-footed finish after Edgar Pujol sent him through. Yet Haiti soon restored their authority, with Isidor converting from close range with his left foot after a corner in the 67th minute.

Fortuné added the fourth nine minutes later. Providence again drove down the left, beat his marker and delivered a cross for the forward to head home.

The victory leaves Haiti second in the League A group, tied with Curaçao but below them on goal difference. The Dominican Republic remain third on six points, while Costa Rica and Nicaragua have one point each and Trinidad and Tobago remain bottom after three defeats.
