Hannes Delcroix turned an ordinary Swiss league afternoon into a rare defender’s spectacle, scoring three times in less than 20 minutes as Lugano swept aside Lausanne-Sport 4-0.
The move
The Haiti international centre-back struck in the 35th, 48th and 52nd minutes during Lugano’s away win over Luka Elsner’s Lausanne-Sport on Sunday.
Delcroix’s hat-trick was an exceptional feat for a central defender, arriving shortly after his World Cup experience with Haiti. His goals drove Lugano to a comprehensive result and underlined his unexpected influence at the other end of the pitch.
The French season around it
Elsner’s Lausanne-Sport were unable to contain Delcroix after falling behind, with Lugano adding three further goals to leave the home side beaten without reply.
The result strengthened Lugano’s position at the summit of the Swiss championship. After nine matchdays, they hold a six-point lead over both Young Boys and FC Sion.
