Harry Kane has been named Germany’s Footballer of the Year for 2026, with Bayern Munich team-mate Michael Olise finishing second. Bayern coach Vincent Kompany also took the Coach of the Year award after a season in which the club secured the domestic double and came close to reaching the Champions League final.
Kane and Kompany collect Germany’s annual awards
Kane won the player vote for the first time with 272 ballots. Olise received 203 votes, repeating his runner-up finish from the previous year. That total was still higher than the 191 votes that brought Florian Wirtz the 2025 prize.
The awards return to Munich after Bayern’s 2024/25 title-winning side missed out on the two main individual honours. Kane succeeds Wirtz, while Kompany follows Freiburg coach Julian Schuster.
Kompany’s margin in the coaching ballot was decisive. He collected 314 of the 653 valid votes, ahead of Schuster on 87 and Stuttgart’s Sebastian Hoeneß on 53. Bayern’s domestic results, Kane’s goals and Kompany’s football helped shape the vote, while the Belgian’s composed and approachable public manner has also strengthened the club’s image.
Kane and Kompany will receive their awards on Friday, before Bayern open the Bundesliga season against VfB Stuttgart at the Allianz Arena.
The Footballer of the Year award has been presented since 1960. Franz Beckenbauer remains its most successful winner with four titles. The Coach of the Year prize began in 2002, with Jürgen Klopp and Felix Magath joint record holders on three awards each.
