Harry Kane Urges Michael Olise to Learn From First Bayern Red Card

Munich left its Champions League meeting with Norway’s Viking carrying as much frustration as relief after a 3-3 draw, with Michael Olise’s first career red card becoming the defining moment of a turbulent night. Bayern coach Vincent Kompany had already addressed the winger’s dismissal, and Harry Kane followed with a public call for his teammate to take responsibility.

A costly moment against Viking

  1. Olise was booked after throwing the ball into the head of Viking captain Zlatko Tripic during Bayern’s second league-phase match on Tuesday.
  2. The caution led to the first sending-off of the France international’s senior career.
  3. Bayern were held to a 3-3 result, having seen the contest altered by playing with a man down.
  4. Kane said the dismissal changed the entire complexion of the match and stressed that Olise would be deeply disappointed by the incident.

The England captain said Bayern should have taken victory from the game, but warned that such mistakes bring consequences at Champions League level. Olise, he added, must learn from the episode with major fixtures still to come.

Kane extends remarkable European run

There was still a landmark performance from Kane amid the disorder. The Bayern forward scored twice against Viking, taking his Champions League scoring streak to nine successive appearances.

That run draws him level with Ruud van Nistelrooy and Robert Lewandowski. Only Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored in 11 consecutive Champions League matches, stands ahead of him in the competition’s record books.

For Bayern, however, the immediate concern is ensuring that Olise’s moment of indiscipline does not carry beyond a difficult evening against the Norwegian visitors.
