Harry Kane Wins First Ballon d’Or After Bayern Munich Glory

Harry Kane’s long route from north London to Munich reached its most personal milestone at the 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony, where the England captain collected the award for the first time at the age of 33.

The Bayern Munich striker became the fifth Englishman to win France Football’s individual prize after a season in which club trophies, prolific scoring and a decisive World Cup contribution placed him at the front of the race.

A season that carried Kane to the prize

  1. Kane helped Bayern complete a domestic treble, winning the Bundesliga, the German Super Cup and the German Cup.
  2. Across 65 matches during the campaign, he scored 73 goals and supplied eight assists.
  3. He also delivered for England at the 2026 World Cup, scoring six times as the national side finished third.
  4. In the hours before the ceremony, he had widely been viewed as the leading candidate for the Ballon d’Or.
  5. His victory made him the fifth player from England to lift the award and marked the first Ballon d’Or of his career.

“Now or never”

Kane described the moment as a mixture of relief and joy, acknowledging that the opportunity carried particular weight at this stage of his career.

“It was relief and happiness. It felt like now or never,” he said. “You never know whether you will win another one. I am 33 and I will not be here forever.”

He also turned his thoughts to the people around him after a campaign that took him from Bayern’s trophy run in Germany to England’s World Cup podium finish.

“It has been a fantastic season,” Kane said. “When I saw my family, I thought about how much they have supported me. Everything I have won, I share with them.”

From Tottenham scorer to European recognition

Kane built his reputation as one of the Premier League’s most dangerous forwards during his years with Tottenham, before taking his goalscoring record to Bayern Munich. His persistence through the quieter periods of his career ultimately brought the game’s leading individual honour to the German champions.
