Inter’s preparation for Bologna has acquired another unwelcome complication, with Cristian Chivu losing Benjamin Pavard to a muscle problem at a point in the season when every selection carries weight.
The coach and the club
Pavard will miss the meeting with Bologna after reporting discomfort in the adductor area of his right thigh. The French defender underwent clinical and instrumental examinations on the morning at the Humanitas Institute in Rozzano.
His condition will be assessed again over the coming days, leaving Inter to wait before establishing a clearer timetable for his return.
The absence adds to Chivu’s existing concerns. Lautaro Martinez is already unavailable with muscle discomfort in the flexors of his left thigh, while the Inter coach must also do without the English pair, Stones and Jones.
For Chivu, the issue is not merely the loss of one defender for a single fixture. With Pavard joining an already lengthening list of absentees, the Bologna match becomes another test of the squad’s capacity to carry the championship forward through an unsettled period.
