Coventry City’s long wait ended under the Nottingham Forest lights on Saturday, as Jay Dasilva’s stunning second-half finish delivered the promoted side’s first Premier League goal and first win of the campaign.
Frank Lampard’s team arrived at the City Ground bottom of the table after four league defeats without scoring. They left with a 1-0 victory, climbing from 20th to 18th place and moving above Tottenham, now 19th.
Dasilva strike changes Coventry’s season
The decisive moment came in the 55th minute. Goalkeeper Carl Rushworth launched a long clearance forward and Dasilva, operating as a wing-back, brought the ball down brilliantly with his right foot while catching Daniel Munoz off guard.
He then struck left-footed beyond Matz Sels for the only goal of the match, ending Coventry’s scoreless start to life back in the top flight.
It was a significant response after earlier results had left the promoted clubs under pressure. Hull City were beaten 2-1 at Newcastle, while Norwich lost 1-0 away to Everton.
Coventry, however, found the breakthrough when it mattered most. Their victory at Forest gives Lampard’s side a first platform after five Premier League rounds, with their first points and first goal arriving together.
