Ottawa added a new crease option on Sept. 25, bringing goaltender Jonas Johansson over from the Tampa Bay Lightning for future considerations. The move was the latest entry in a trade ledger that has seen NHL clubs reshuffle everything from starting-calibre blue lines to organizational depth since July 1.
September and August moves
The Senators’ Johansson deal capped the most recent round of transactions. Earlier in September, New Jersey paid a significant draft price to land young forward Luke Evangelista from Nashville.

- On Sept. 1, the New Jersey Devils obtained Evangelista from the Nashville Predators in exchange for first- and second-round selections in the 2028 NHL Draft.
- On Aug. 20, Detroit acquired forward Sutter Muzzatti from Nashville for future considerations.
- On Aug. 19, Anaheim brought in forward Cruz Lucius from Pittsburgh for future considerations.
- On Aug. 17, Carolina acquired forward Stiven Sardarian from Buffalo for future considerations.
Late-July player swap and Buffalo-Washington deal
Montreal and Anaheim completed a straight forward-for-forward exchange on July 27, with Sasha Pastujov headed to the Canadiens and Sean Farrell joining the Ducks. Buffalo then made a smaller roster trade with Washington in mid-July.
- The Canadiens acquired Pastujov from Anaheim for Farrell on July 27.
- On July 13, Buffalo received forward Zac Funk from the Capitals, sending forward Tyler Kopff to Washington.
July 2 deal sends Coleman and Maatta to Minnesota
Minnesota made one of the summer’s more substantial additions on July 2, acquiring forward Blake Coleman and defenseman Olli Maatta from Calgary. The Flames received defenseman Jacob Middleton plus three future draft choices: a third-round pick in 2027, a fourth-round pick in 2028 and a second-round selection in 2029.
The package gave the Wild help at both forward and on the back end, while Calgary collected a proven defenseman and a spread of picks across three drafts.
July 1 opens with major movement around the league
The first day of the trade period delivered the heaviest traffic, including major swaps involving the Rangers, Oilers, Sharks, Maple Leafs and Predators. New York moved Vincent Trocheck and Marcus Pettersson arrived in Manhattan, while the Rangers also added a goaltender in Joonas Korpisalo.
- Nashville acquired forward Mavrik Bourque and defenseman Ilya Lyubushkin from Dallas for a 2027 second-round pick and a 2028 third-round pick.
- Detroit obtained forward Keegan Kolesar from Vegas for a third-round pick in 2029 and a seventh-round pick in 2027.
- The Rangers acquired defenseman Marcus Pettersson from Vancouver for a first-round pick in the 2030 draft.
- Boston added defenseman Will Borgen from the Rangers for a 2027 second-round selection and a conditional third-round pick in 2028.
- Utah acquired forward Vincent Trocheck from the Rangers, sending defenseman Sean Durzi, forward Cole Beaudoin and a 2027 third-round pick to New York.
- San Jose landed defenseman Darnell Nurse from Edmonton in return for defensemen Shakir Mukhamadullin and Zachary Sharp.
- Toronto acquired forward Nick Paul from Tampa Bay for goaltender Dennis Hildeby, a 2027 fourth-round pick and a 2028 third-round pick.
- Edmonton received goalie Devon Levi and a 2028 seventh-round pick from Buffalo for a 2028 third-round selection.
- The Rangers acquired Korpisalo from Boston, with forward Kalle Vaisanen going the other way.
The early rush reshaped several depth charts, especially in net and on defense. Ottawa’s Johansson addition now stands as the latest crease adjustment as clubs continue to position their rosters for the 2026-27 season.
