Jordan Lefort’s 82-Match Angers Ever-Present Run Ends with Brest Red Card

Under the floodlights at Francis-Le Blé, a remarkable Angers record came to an abrupt end. Jordan Lefort, who had played every single league minute for 82 consecutive matches, was sent off during Saturday’s 5-1 defeat at Brest in Ligue 1’s sixth round.

A red card ends an exceptional run

Lefort was dismissed in the 59th minute after referee Eric Wattellier reviewed the incident on VAR and punished his foul on Brest forward Mama Baldé. Angers were already enduring a difficult evening, with their defence overwhelmed in a heavy defeat, when their most dependable ever-present was forced from the pitch.

  • The Angers defender had completed 82 straight league fixtures from first whistle to the end of added time.
  • That sequence included 73 Ligue 1 matches.
  • Across the previous two seasons, he was the only outfield player to play every league minute.
  • The dismissal means he will not complete a third consecutive full Ligue 1 campaign.

The Mauritania international had last failed to finish a league match on 16 March 2024. Angers, then playing in Ligue 2, lost 3-1 to Amiens and Lefort was replaced by Florent Hanin in the 76th minute.

Francis-Le Blé, where the sequence began and finished

There was a sharp symmetry to the ending. Brest was also the venue for Lefort’s last complete league season, when he played the full match in Angers’ 1-1 draw there in May 2026.

His long uninterrupted stretch had begun at the same stadium two weeks after the Amiens defeat. Concarneau, temporarily staging some home fixtures in Brest, lost 4-2 to Angers that day, and Lefort started the sequence that would run through 82 league games.

More than two years later, on the same ground, it was a VAR intervention and a red card that finally stopped it.
