Kylian Mbappé Leaves Nike to Front On’s First Football Boot Launch

In Madrid, where Kylian Mbappé’s arrival has already altered the scale of Real Madrid’s attack, the France forward is beginning a separate new chapter away from the pitch. The 27-year-old has ended his long association with Nike and signed with Swiss sportswear company On, becoming the central figure in its first move into football boots.

The news from the club

Mbappé’s agreement comes after his Nike contract expired this summer. He chose On ahead of other established boot manufacturers, including Adidas and Puma, as the Swiss brand prepares to challenge a market also being pursued by newer football players such as New Balance and Skechers.

The financial terms have not been made public, although Mbappé has received an equity stake in On. He did not comment on that element of the arrangement.

On said the Real Madrid striker would be integral to its football project, bringing together one of the game’s leading players and a company known for its modern approach to sportswear. Mbappé will work with the brand’s product teams, offering an elite player’s input into the design and testing of future football footwear and clothing.

His position will also extend beyond matchday equipment. On plans to use Mbappé as a worldwide ambassador across movement, performance and contemporary design.

“What appealed to me from the outset was the chance to create something new together and help influence football’s future,” Mbappé said. “I want to bring my experience and viewpoint to the products we develop, push innovation as far as it can go and never lose the joy that football gives us. We share a dream, and this is only the beginning.”

On’s route into football

The move is a significant expansion for a Swiss company founded 17 years ago and historically associated with premium running shoes. On has previously entered tennis, with Roger Federer joining in 2019 through a deal that included an ownership interest. Its current athletes in apparel and footwear include US Open finalist Ben Shelton.

Football is its most ambitious sporting step yet. Thierry Henry, the former France and Arsenal forward, has quietly held the role of On’s Director of Football since 2025 and played an important part in bringing Mbappé to the company.

On has also broadened its relationship with Barcelona and Switzerland player Sydney Schertenleib. She initially joined the company in December 2025 as an ambassador for its training and lifestyle collection, and will now contribute to the development of football boots.

Founder David Allemann said On’s premium football boots are scheduled to reach the market in 2027. The company is also targeting a substantial presence in women’s football ahead of next summer’s FIFA Women’s World Cup, while Mbappé is expected to appear on the field in On boots before then.
