Yamal pointed to Lionel Messi and Ronaldinho as the kind of footballers he associates with the award: players whose presence alone could make a match worth watching.
“For me, the Ballon d’Or is for the best player of the year, the player who is different and who people enjoy watching,” Yamal said. “It is about watching a game just because he is playing. It is not only about the goals he scores or anything else. When I think of the Ballon d’Or, I think of Messi, Ronaldinho and players like that, who are different.”
