Lazio found the margin they needed after the interval at the Stadio Olimpico, beating Parma 2-1 in Saturday evening’s Serie A eighth-round meeting. Kenneth Taylor broke a long deadlock, Diego Carlos then turned the ball into his own net, and Parma’s late response through Simone Lontani could not change the result.
The decision
The first half offered chances at both ends without a finish. Parma started with purpose: David Romero tested Christos Mandas early, while El Bilal Touré also forced a save after Emanuele Valeri’s cross. Mariano Troilo, Enrico Delprato and Romero each had further opportunities, though none found the target.
Lazio increasingly carried the greater threat. Gustav Isaksen headed wide, struck the crossbar from Mattia Zaccagni’s delivery and had another effort blocked. Reda Belahyane and Kenneth Taylor were denied from outside the area, while Romano Floriani Mussolini was stopped from close range shortly before the break.
After replacing Oliver Provstgaard with Diogo Leite at half-time, Lazio finally made their pressure count five minutes into the second period. Taylor drove a left-footed effort from beyond the box low inside the left post for the opening goal.
Parma introduced Adrián Bernabé at the interval and later turned to Simone Lontani, Matija Frigan and Giovanni Fabbian as they tried to restore the contest. Yet Lazio extended their lead in the 58th minute, with Parma defender Diego Carlos credited with an own goal.
The hosts had chances to put the match further beyond reach. Mattia Zaccagni, Davide Frattesi, Floriani Mussolini, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru and Nuno Tavares all missed the target, while Edoardo Corvi dealt with Zaccagni’s long-range attempt and Lazio’s corner pressure continued.
Parma remained in the game. Lontani had a close-range effort drift narrowly wide in added time, then pulled one back in the 95th minute. The substitute struck left-footed from a difficult position on the far left, with Fabbian providing the assist, to make it 2-1.
There were seven minutes of stoppage time, but Lazio managed the closing moments after Enrico Delprato fouled Nuno Tavares near the left touchline. Fabbian was also penalised for handball before the final whistle confirmed Lazio’s victory.
