The lights will be on at the Moustoir on Saturday night, and Lorient know the occasion carries early weight. Alexandre Dujeux’s side host Paris FC at 20:45 in the sixth round of Ligue 1, still looking for their first home win of the campaign after taking only five points from five matches.
Key takeaways
- Lorient sit 12th in Ligue 1 with five points after five rounds.
- Their only victory so far came away at Lens, a 1-0 result on 5 September.
- Paris FC visit the Moustoir on Saturday at 20:45.
- Lorient then face Monaco at home on Sunday 18 October, kicking off at 17:15.
- Dujeux wants his team to become harder to break down after recent dropped points.
A home response required
Lorient are not yet treating their start as a crisis, but Dujeux has made clear that his players cannot allow the season to drift. The Merlus believe they have the capacity to improve on last season’s 10th-place finish, yet their coach sees a demanding stretch arriving.
“I think we are capable of having a very good season, but we must also realise that the league has started and there are major challenges ahead,” Dujeux said.
He believes Lorient could have collected more than their current five-point total, but insisted that opportunities must no longer be wasted. “We could have had a few more points, but we do not have them. We cannot leave anything behind. We have potential. We need to be ambitious while remaining very alert.”
Turning the Moustoir into a stronger base
The Moustoir was central to Lorient’s encouraging previous campaign, but it has not yet provided the platform Dujeux wants this term. His frustration has been shaped by a 2-1 defeat to Troyes on 29 August and, more sharply, a 2-2 draw with Toulouse on 12 September after Lorient had built a two-goal lead.
Dujeux does not want his squad burdened by excessive pressure over their home record. Instead, he has called for a calmer and more ruthless edge.
“There should not be disproportionate pressure around it, but there has to be a cold determination,” he said. “We need to be a difficult team to play against and to be more solid defensively as well.”
Paris FC offer Lorient the immediate chance to answer that demand. With Monaco also due on the banks of the Scorff, the next two fixtures give Dujeux’s side an opportunity to put momentum into a season that has yet to properly begin.
