Manchester City Appeal Premier League Verdict Over 114 Financial Breaches

Manchester City have opened the next chapter of their long-running financial case, lodging a comprehensive appeal on Thursday evening against a Premier League commission decision that found the club responsible for 114 of the 115 alleged breaches.

Appeal submitted in Manchester

  1. On Thursday, 1 October 2026, at 19:00, Manchester City submitted their appeal against the Independent Commission’s ruling in the Premier League disciplinary case.
  2. The commission had upheld 114 of the 115 accusations examined during its investigation into the club.
  3. The findings included allegations that more than €900 million had entered the club through unlawful investment arrangements and sponsorship agreements deemed fraudulent, with the money said to have come from City’s owner, Abu Dhabi United Group.
  4. City responded by challenging the commission’s conclusions in full, arguing that the decision contains significant errors of law, principle and fact.

Club maintains innocence

City said its position remains unequivocal: it rejects the allegations brought by the Premier League and believes substantial, conclusive evidence supports its case.

The club described the commission’s opinion as unsafe and said the appeal addresses what it considers clear material defects in the ruling. It did not expand on the individual grounds of the challenge.

“Manchester City Football Club confirms that it filed its full appeal at 19:00 on Thursday 1 October 2026 against the Premier League Commission’s opinion in this disciplinary matter,” the club said.

It added that it would continue to follow the legal process and was restricted in what it could discuss publicly while the proceedings remain unresolved.
