At Anfield, where visiting support is often swallowed by the red noise of Liverpool, Manchester City followers brought a conspicuous piece of their own matchday history to the Premier League trip: inflatable bananas.
A City ritual carried to Liverpool
The objects appeared among the Manchester City end during the visit to Anfield, reviving a supporters’ tradition that dates back to 1987.
City fans have maintained the inflatable-banana tribute for decades, and its reappearance on Merseyside gave the away section a brightly familiar marker amid one of English football’s most recognisable stadiums.
