Manchester City’s long-running financial case has entered a decisive new phase, with an independent commission finding the English champions guilty of charges connected to Premier League financial rules across nine seasons.
Commission delivers its verdict
- An independent commission ruled that Manchester City were responsible for every charge concerning serious breaches of the Premier League’s financial regulations during a nine-season period.

City prepare legal challenge
Manchester City rejected the conclusions and said it remains innocent of the allegations brought by the Premier League. The club said it holds what it described as extensive and conclusive evidence in support of its position.
In its response, City said it would pursue its case “firmly” and, where required, proactively before the relevant regulatory and legal bodies. The club maintained that significant parts of the process are still unfinished and said it will use every available legal route to challenge the ruling.
City argued that the opinion contains substantial errors in law, principle and fact, making it unsafe. It also said it had observed due process throughout an eight-year period, having expected the Premier League board and executive to act as an independent, impartial and fair regulator free from partisan influence.
The Manchester club added that restrictions limit what it can say publicly while further proceedings remain open.
