Marseille Injury Update as Abdelli Returns to Full Training

Marseille return from the international break with a clearer injury picture, but little room for comfort as a difficult Ligue 1 campaign resumes. Several players have come back carrying concerns, while two important midfield options have taken their first steps back in full training.

The Ligue 1 news

Himad Abdelli has made encouraging progress after suffering an ankle knock while on Algeria duty. He was fit enough to start Algeria’s match against Niger, easing fears over his availability.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is due back in Marseille on Wednesday after sustaining a muscle strain with Denmark. The club will carry out further medical tests once he returns to determine the extent of the problem.

The most serious setback concerns Derek Cornelius. The Canada international suffered a hip injury during a national-team training session and is not expected to play again before 2027.

There was better news at the training ground on Tuesday. Amine Harit, recovering from a knee issue, and Geoffrey Kondogbia, who had been sidelined by a thigh injury, both joined collective training for the first time since their respective absences.

Nnadi had already returned to the pitch and featured alongside his team-mates in Saturday’s friendly defeat to Montpellier.

Marseille are taking a cautious approach with Amine Gouiri. The forward felt pain in his thigh while away with Algeria and returned to the club early. He trained separately on Tuesday, with no unnecessary risk planned over his fitness.

Next appointment: Troyes away

Second from bottom after five Ligue 1 matches, Marseille travel to Troyes on Sunday evening, with kick-off set for 20:45. The visit offers an immediate chance to halt a run of five consecutive defeats.

The Montpellier friendly loss during the break did not lift the mood around the squad, and Bruno Genesio’s staff will need the returning players quickly. Marseille face a demanding month ahead, with eight matches across Ligue 1 and the Europa League, making depth and recovery increasingly important.
