Bruno Genesio’s side have suffered four consecutive defeats after being beaten by Monaco, Paris FC and Rennes in Ligue 1 before collapsing in Turkey.

It is only the second time in Marseille’s history that the club have lost four of their opening five fixtures in a season. The previous instance dates back to 1964, when Mario Zatelli was in charge.
Genesio faces mounting pressure
The Besiktas result sharpened an already difficult picture for Marseille, who are dealing with sporting struggles alongside a difficult financial situation.
Their wider record in 2026 is equally troubling. OM have lost 13 of 29 competitive matches this year, a defeat rate of 45 per cent. The club had not recorded a worse annual proportion since 1985, when it stood at 47 per cent.
Genesio must now find an immediate response before PSG arrive at the Stade Velodrome on Sunday. Marseille will enter the match carrying four straight defeats, with a historic early-season slump threatening to become still deeper under the lights.
