The Vélodrome will lose part of its voice for Marseille’s next two Ligue 1 home matches after the LFP disciplinary commission ordered the closure of the stadium’s North Stand.
Olympique de Marseille must play behind closed doors in that section when Le Havre visit on Sunday 25 October, then again for Toulouse’s trip on Sunday 1 November.
Quick facts
- Marseille’s North Stand has been closed for two Ligue 1 fixtures.
- The sanction applies to home matches against Le Havre and Toulouse.
- Le Havre visit on 25 October in Matchday 8.
- Toulouse arrive on 1 November for Matchday 9.
- The punishment follows incidents during Marseille’s 2-1 home defeat to Paris Saint-Germain on 20 September.
The disciplinary action stems from the Classique against PSG at the Vélodrome, a match Marseille lost 2-1 on 20 September.
The league cited the use of pyrotechnic devices and abusive verbal behaviour in its decision. Homophobic chants were heard during the fixture, along with insults aimed at Paris winger Ousmane Dembélé.
The closure means the North Stand, normally one of the loudest areas of the Marseille ground, will be empty for both upcoming league appointments. Marseille will face Le Havre first before hosting Toulouse one week later.
