Manchester United left Craven Cottage with a point, but little comfort, after Matheus Cunha’s stoppage-time effort rescued a 1-1 draw against bottom club Fulham on Sunday.
Coming after a 1-0 derby defeat to Manchester City on 13 September and Wednesday’s 3-2 League Cup third-round exit against Brighton at Old Trafford, United had arrived needing a response. Instead, they again exposed the same frailties: missed chances at one end and uncertainty at the other.

United created enough in the opening half to put the match out of reach. Lisandro Martinez saw a volley turned away by Bernd Leno after 10 minutes, while Diogo Dalot also tested the Fulham goalkeeper.
Bruno Fernandes hit the post in the 25th minute and Cunha followed suit six minutes later. Marcus Rashford then sent an attempt off target shortly before the interval, another sign of a side unable to convert pressure into goals.
Fulham were repeatedly pushed back but carried a threat of their own. Joshua King had two opportunities, while Sander Berge and Oscar Bobb also found openings during a breathless first period.
The tempo dropped after the break and United paid for their inability to take control. Calvin Bassey struck from distance in the 63rd minute, and the ball ended in the net off Martinez after an intervention from the United goalkeeper.
Trailing 1-0, United found Leno in defiant form again. Bryan Mbeumo was denied in the 67th minute and Cunha could not beat the Fulham keeper seven minutes later.
There was one final twist in the 90th minute. Cunha’s strike was deflected by David Affengruber and found its way past Leno, sparing United a defeat but doing little to ease the pressure after another uneven display.
