McTominay Nears Napoli Return After Final Medical Clearance

Napoli are approaching the return of Scott McTominay, with the Scotland midfielder expected to complete the medical process required to regain sporting eligibility between today and tomorrow following his September procedure.

The final examinations are the remaining formal step after an ablation carried out on 8 September to address a mild benign arrhythmia. His recovery has proceeded as planned, and the club expect that, once the clearance is issued, McTominay can again be considered fully available to Massimiliano Allegri.

The midfielder has already spent around ten days back at Castel Volturno after completing the first part of his rehabilitation in England. He has followed an individual programme, combining gym work with his first sessions on the pitch and steadily increasing the intensity. He has not yet trained with the squad, as he needed renewed medical approval before returning to full competitive activity.

Napoli’s immediate hope is to have him back in contention for Saturday evening’s Serie A meeting with Frosinone at the Maradona, scheduled for 20:45. Allegri will be able to bring him into group training after the checks are completed, then assess how close he is to match condition after several weeks away from the demands of the league.

McTominay’s last appearance came on 30 August against Como. He left the field in the 56th minute and was replaced by Kevin De Bruyne, before the subsequent discovery and treatment of the issue that kept him out. After the operation, he observed two weeks of rest before beginning a gradual return to physical work.

There is limited time before Frosinone arrive in Naples, but McTominay has already undertaken tailored preparation with the restart in mind. The coming medical clearance should close a careful recovery process and allow him to resume the daily work with his team-mates that has been missing from his season since the end of August.
