Belgrade offered the Netherlands a more decisive second step after their opening draw with Germany, as Mexx Meerdink’s two goals carried the Oranje to a 2-1 victory over Serbia.
Meerdink proved the difference in the Serbian capital, scoring twice to give the Dutch side control of a tight international meeting. Serbia found a goal of their own, but the visitors held on for the win.
The result follows the Netherlands’ draw against Germany in their first match, giving the Oranje a valuable lift as their campaign moves on from its opening fixture.
