The Memphis Grizzlies have cleared a roster spot by waiving veteran guard D’Angelo Russell and have added guard Brendan Hausen, moving Russell back onto the market shortly before the season.

Memphis turns over the backcourt group
Russell arrived in Memphis during July’s six-team transaction with the Washington Wizards, but his stay did not extend into the regular-season roster. The Grizzlies chose the waiver route as they reduced their player count, giving the former No. 2 overall pick time to pursue another landing spot before opening night.
Hausen joins the organization as the corresponding guard addition. Memphis did not announce further terms with the move.
A winding path after Brooklyn
Russell, selected second overall in the 2015 draft, made his lone All-Star team with the Nets in 2018-19. He drove Brooklyn’s young group to the East’s No. 6 seed and a playoff berth while posting 21.1 points, 7.0 assists and 3.9 rebounds per night.
After two seasons in Brooklyn, Russell’s career took him through Golden State, Minnesota, the Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas. He appeared in 26 games for the Mavericks last season, averaging 10.2 points and 4.0 assists.
