San Salvador’s Estadio Nacional Jorge “Mágico” González became the setting for an episode of supporter intimidation during El Salvador’s Concacaf Nations League opener against Martinique, where a spectator wearing Mexico’s green national-team shirt was harassed by members of the home crowd.
Video circulating online shows the man moving through a stadium concourse without confronting other fans or making gestures towards the stands. A Salvadoran supporter then grabbed his Mexico jersey, while insults and mocking chants were directed at him.
The situation was defused only after people accompanying the spectator gave him an El Salvador shirt to wear over the Mexico top. Once the visiting national-team colours were covered, the abuse stopped and the group was able to move away from the confrontation.
Images prompt wider concern
The footage quickly drew criticism from supporters across the region, with the incident raising renewed questions over crowd safety and tolerance at international fixtures in Central America.
There has been no public statement from the stadium authorities or Concacaf on possible disciplinary action, security measures or preventive steps following the intimidation reported at the venue.
