Milan return to work at Milanello on Tuesday morning after the pause granted by Amorim following the win over Lecce, beginning another international break with a smaller group but several important first-team players still in camp.
Milanello resumes after the Lecce victory
- After beating Lecce, Amorim gave his squad time away from training.
- The players who have remained in Milan will report back on Tuesday morning, more than a week after the previous full session.
- The coach will initially work with a reduced selection, as 15 Milan players have joined their national teams.
That international contingent puts Milan level with Como as the Serie A club with the largest number of call-ups during this break. It is a reflection of the depth within the Rossoneri squad, but it also leaves Amorim to prepare the next stage of the campaign without much of his group until the various internationals return.
Important first-team players remain available
There are nevertheless notable senior players at Milanello. Mario Gila has not been selected by Spain and will be available for work as he seeks to reach his best physical condition.
Alexis Saelemaekers is also staying in Milan after losing his place in the Belgium set-up, where fellow Milan player Moreira has moved ahead of him. Christian Pulisic, meanwhile, has not been called up by the United States.
For Pulisic, the break offers a useful chance to rebuild fitness after a demanding opening to the season. The American’s absence from the squad does not mean Milan are without representation, however: Yunus Musah wore the United States number 10 shirt in the match against Peru.
It leaves Amorim with a period that is quieter than a normal training week, but not without value. With the league season moving forward, Milan can use these days to restore condition, sharpen those left behind and prepare the return of a heavily travelled international group.
