In Wilmslow, on the Cheshire roads south of Manchester, Mohamed Salah’s name has surfaced in a driving case that now carries consequences beyond the football calendar. The Egyptian forward, who moved to Trabzonspor after leaving Liverpool at the end of last season, has been barred from driving in England for six months.
The news from the club
The sanction followed a speeding incident involving Salah’s electric Rolls-Royce Spectre, a vehicle valued at £400,000. A mobile camera recorded the car travelling above the limit in Wilmslow in March, on a road restricted to 30mph, or roughly 48km/h.
Salah did not tell police who had been driving when the offence occurred and did not answer two court notices sent to his English home. Warrington magistrates convicted the 34-year-old last month in his absence for failing to identify the driver.
Alongside the six-month driving disqualification, Salah was ordered to pay a £660 fine. The total also includes £120 in court costs and a further £264 statutory surcharge.
A previous English road offence
This is not Salah’s first motoring penalty in England. In 2022, he was caught driving a Ferrari F8 Tributo at 63mph in Stockport, where the applicable limit was 50mph.
That earlier case resulted in a £200 fine and three points on his driving licence.
The latest episode came two days after Salah announced that he would depart Liverpool at the close of the previous season. He subsequently continued his club career on Turkey’s Black Sea coast with Trabzonspor.
