Morocco’s route towards the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations remained smooth on Tuesday night, with a composed 2-0 win over Lesotho in Bloemfontein. Brahim Diaz broke the resistance before half-time and Azzedine Ounahi added a late second as Mohamed Ouahbi’s side made it two victories from two qualifying matches.
Three days after opening their campaign with another 2-0 success against Gabon, the Atlas Lions controlled the contest in South Africa, where landlocked Lesotho played its home fixture. Morocco had 79% of possession and allowed only six attempts, turning the evening into a largely uneventful one until the goals arrived.
Diaz struck just before the interval. Ounahi released Neil El Aynaoui into the penalty area, where a defensive tackle stopped the initial danger without clearing the ball properly. The loose ball fell near the penalty spot for Morocco’s No. 10, who finished to give his team the lead.
Ounahi, already central to the opening goal, put the result beyond doubt in the closing 10 minutes. Soufiane Rahimi picked him out with a cut-back in the middle of the box, and the midfielder guided a first-time finish low inside the post.
The only concern for Morocco came when Noussair Mazraoui felt discomfort following a touchline collision. The full-back initially got back to his feet, but was replaced by Achraf Hakimi a few minutes later as the Atlas Lions saw out another controlled qualifying victory.
