Napoli to Appeal Allegri’s Two-Match Serie A Touchline Ban

Napoli’s week has acquired an administrative edge after Massimiliano Allegri received a two-match touchline ban and a €10,000 fine following Saturday’s Serie A meeting with Roma. The club have confirmed that they will appeal the suspension.

The decision

The sporting judge imposed the two-game ban on Allegri for disrespectful remarks towards match officials. The ruling also cited an insulting comment directed at the officials in the 90th minute, as well as a further seriously disrespectful remark in the dressing-room area.

Allegri was additionally sanctioned for adopting an aggressive attitude towards a Roma club official after the match. The incidents were reported by the fourth official and referee, while the final episode was noted by Federal Prosecutor’s Office representatives.

Napoli have moved quickly to challenge the punishment. After requesting access to the relevant documents, the club stated that it would lodge an appeal against the two-match suspension handed to its coach.

The ruling leaves a managerial question hanging over Napoli’s next two league commitments, subject to the outcome of the appeal, at a point when each Sunday increasingly carries weight in the wider Serie A season.

Other disciplinary measures

Lecce defender Gaspar Kialonda was also given a two-match ban. He had been sent off for improper conduct towards an opponent and for directing an insulting expression at the referee.

Lecce received the largest club fine in the disciplinary bulletin, €15,000. Their supporters were found to have thrown six smoke devices onto the pitch, causing the referee to delay the restart on several occasions, as well as six more into the playing enclosure.
