NFL injury update: A.J. Brown eyes return as Shipley, Wilson face absences

Several NFL teams entered the new week with significant injury questions, including potential returns for A.J. Brown and Will Campbell, while Roman Wilson and Will Shipley could face extended absences.

Key takeaways

  • A.J. Brown could resume practice this week after spending time on injured reserve with a high ankle sprain.
  • Will Shipley is expected to miss multiple weeks after suffering a partial plantar fascia tear against Jacksonville.
  • Roman Wilson’s finger injury is projected to keep him out for more than one game.
  • Anton Harrison had an MRI on his knee Monday.
  • Kenyon Sadiq is still in the concussion protocol following the win over Cleveland.

Practice outlook for Brown and Campbell

Brown has been sidelined since he sustained a high ankle sprain in Week 1, but there is optimism that the wide receiver can get back on the practice field this week. His return to practice would be an important step toward an eventual activation from injured reserve.

Left tackle Will Campbell also has a chance to practice in the coming days after hurting his knee during Sunday’s victory. Campbell is dealing with a knee sprain and will be evaluated on a day-to-day basis as the team determines how much work he can handle.

Elsewhere on the offensive line, Anton Harrison underwent knee imaging Monday. No timetable for his availability was announced.

Shipley and Wilson face longer recoveries

Shipley suffered a partial tear in the plantar fascia of his foot during Sunday’s loss to the Jaguars. The running back is expected to be unavailable for multiple weeks, creating a hole in the backfield rotation.

Wilson also left Sunday’s win over Indianapolis with a finger injury that is expected to cost him multiple games. The receiver’s absence could limit depth in the passing game as the club prepares for its next matchup.

Sadiq remains under the league’s concussion procedures after playing in Sunday’s win against Cleveland. He will need to clear the required protocol before he can return to football activities and be considered for the next kickoff.
