The final singles berth at the WTA Finals in Indian Wells remains unresolved as the Ningbo draw becomes the decisive stage of the season-long race. Seven players have already booked their places for the event beginning on November 8: Elena Rybakina, Aryna Sabalenka, Mirra Andreeva, Jessica Pegula, Coco Gauff, Elina Svitolina and Linda Noskova.
Karolina Muchova, Iga Swiatek and Marta Kostyuk are still competing for the eighth and last qualifying position. Muchova currently holds the edge with 4,735 points at No. 7 in the standings, ahead of ninth-ranked Swiatek on 4,189 and No. 10 Kostyuk on 3,920.
Muchova has elected not to play this week, leaving her place in the Finals field dependent on the results in Ningbo. Her route to qualification is clear: she will clinch the final ticket if Swiatek falls before the quarterfinals and Kostyuk does not make the championship match.
Swiatek, seeded second in Ningbo, begins against Marie Bouzkova. Kostyuk will face either Hanyu Guo or Ekaterina Alexandrova in her opening match. Both contenders have landed in the same half of the 28-player draw, creating the possibility of a semifinal meeting that could directly reshape the race.
A quarterfinal run from Swiatek, or a march to the final from Kostyuk, would prevent Muchova from sealing her Indian Wells place immediately and extend the battle for the season-ending championship.
