Parma found the clarity that Genoa lacked when the match opened up at the Tardini, claiming a 2-1 victory that brings their first league success of the season. For Daniele De Rossi’s side, effort again could not alter the wider picture: Genoa enter the break second from bottom with only one point.
The coach and the club
De Rossi watched his team begin with greater initiative in Emilia. Genoa controlled much of the territory in an anxious first half, when both sides appeared burdened by their early-season positions, yet their possession did not produce a decisive opening against Edoardo Corvi.
Parma were largely occupied with resisting that pressure until they struck from their first meaningful attack. In the 38th minute, Romero brought down a difficult ball near the attacking midfield area, accelerated beyond Ostigard and finished while off balance to beat Bijlow.
The goal changed the temperature of the afternoon. Genoa responded with urgency before the interval, although their increased commitment left room behind them. Parma nearly doubled the lead when Valeri delivered an inviting cross, but Touré headed wide despite being unmarked.
A match decided in the final stretch
Genoa returned after the restart with the urgency expected of a team in their situation. El Shaarawy was introduced as De Rossi sought greater attacking conviction, but the visitors continued to combine determination with a lack of precision.
Parma stayed compact in their own half and initially focused on absorbing the visitors’ forward bursts. The equaliser arrived in the 70th minute, when Osmajic chased a long ball from deep and beat Corvi to make it 1-1.
Neither side could settle for a draw, and the final stages became increasingly stretched as both looked for a result that would change their early-season standing. Parma found it with ten minutes remaining: Almqvist benefited from Elphege’s strong work with his back to goal and supplied the finish that settled the contest.
The final whistle brought relief for Parma and a difficult aftermath for Genoa. The visiting players went beneath the away end for an uncomfortable exchange with their supporters, a fittingly stark conclusion to another afternoon in which commitment was not enough to lift De Rossi’s team from the foot of the table.
