Hamburg have lost Patson Daka for several weeks after the Zambia international returned from duty with a left-thigh muscle tear.
The 27-year-old centre-forward sustained the injury during Zambia’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Algeria. Detailed examinations after his return to Hamburg confirmed the diagnosis.
Quick facts
- Patson Daka has suffered a muscle-fibre tear in his left thigh.
- The injury occurred while he was with Zambia for AFCON qualifying.
- Hamburg expect the striker to be unavailable for weeks.
- Daka has made two starts and two substitute appearances so far.
- He registered one assist in Hamburg’s 3-0 German Cup first-round win at Verl.
Coach Merlin Polzin must now cover another absence in the forward line. Daka had not yet fully settled following his arrival, but he had been part of the regular rotation.
The setback is more significant because Hamburg are already without Albert Grönbaek, their leading scorer, and fellow attacker Terem Moffi. Both remain sidelined through injury.
