The Pittsburgh Penguins returned to Salt Lake City shortly after takeoff Tuesday after forward Ben Kindel experienced a medical emergency aboard the team flight.
Kindel, 19, was treated immediately by Penguins physician Dr. Dharmest Vyas of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and the club’s medical staff, all of whom were on the plane. An ambulance met the aircraft after it landed back at Salt Lake City International Airport, and Kindel was transported to University of Utah Hospital for additional evaluation.
The Penguins said Kindel was conscious, alert and in stable condition. The club added that player health, family privacy and safety remain its priority, with further information to be released when appropriate.
Pittsburgh had been in Salt Lake City after playing the Utah Mammoth on Monday. The Penguins are due back on the ice Thursday at PPG Paints Arena, where they are scheduled to host the Florida Panthers.
