The Phillies will open their National League Wild Card Series without Luis Arraez after the infielder’s left ankle sprain kept him off the roster for Tuesday’s Game 1 against the Braves at Truist Park.
Interim manager Don Mattingly announced Monday that Otto Kemp will replace Arraez on the postseason club. Philadelphia and Atlanta are scheduled for a 2 p.m. ET first pitch, with the game airing on NBC and Peacock.

Arraez was injured while attempting to avoid a tag after an off-target throw toward first base in the sixth inning at Milwaukee. He stayed down in visible pain before getting to his feet and leaving with assistance from a Phillies athletic trainer.
He has not played since that game. The absence takes a familiar contact bat out of Philadelphia’s infield picture just as the club begins its October run.
Kemp now joins the roster for the Braves series, giving the Phillies another infield option as they try to survive the opening round on the road.
