Pogba Urges Premier League to Award Manchester United Two Titles

Paul Pogba has called for Manchester United to be handed two Premier League titles as Manchester City face the consequences of being found guilty on 114 charges, while the Frenchman weighs up his own next move after a short and unexpected spell at Monaco.

The 33-year-old, now without a club, said he hopes the league is not damaged by the City case but believes United should receive the championships from 2017-18 and 2020-21.

“Honestly, there is not much I can say,” Pogba said during the Singapore Grand Prix weekend at the Marina Bay street circuit. “I just hope it does not hurt the Premier League. Hopefully we can get two titles back at Manchester United.”

Pogba’s United claim

United finished second behind City in both seasons cited by Pogba. His remarks come at a peculiar point in a career that once seemed set to run through the grandest rooms in European football, but has instead left him considering another fresh start.

Pogba was in Singapore with adidas, having attended the Business of Fashion 500 event in Paris the previous week alongside his wife, Zulay. Away from the hospitality suites and Formula 1 garages, the more pressing question remains where he will play next.

A brief Monaco return

The former United and Juventus midfielder joined Monaco after serving 808 days of a ban imposed following a positive test for DHEA, or dehydroepiandrosterone. The original four-year suspension interrupted his second spell at Juventus before his return to the game.

His Monaco stay did not last long. Pogba made only six appearances across the season and earned €52,044 per week before the contract was ended early.

That has left the 2018 World Cup winner back on the market, with Major League Soccer emerging as a possible destination. DC United, Inter Miami and New York City FC are among the clubs understood to have shown an interest in taking him to the United States.

For now, Pogba remains in football’s waiting room: still capable of generating a headline, still attached to the biggest names, but searching for the club that will offer him the next fixture rather than another appearance at a grand event.
