Roseau offered Puerto Rico the response it needed. At Windsor Park Sports Stadium, the island side collected its first points of the Concacaf Nations League campaign with a composed 2-0 away victory over Dominica, moving into second place in Group A of League B.
The visitors, known as the Blue Hurricane, had arrived after a 1-0 loss to Guyana in their opening fixture. This time they were sharper from the outset, more assertive in possession and better balanced across the pitch. Their first goal of the competition came as early as the fourth minute, when centre-back Rodolfo Sulia put Puerto Rico ahead.
Puerto Rico could have widened the margin before the half-hour. In the 21st minute, Wilfredo Rivera delivered from the left for Leandro Antonetti of Portugal’s Estrela Amadora, but Antonetti failed to connect cleanly. Jeremy De León then had a chance in the penalty area but also missed the ball.
Antonetti was involved again 10 minutes later, driving into the box from the left and sending a shot towards goal. Dominica goalkeeper Donté Newton prevented the second with a strong save using his leg.
The breakthrough for a more comfortable lead arrived in the 37th minute. André Cutler released Rivera with a long forward pass, and Rivera raced through alone, rounded Newton and finished to the right to make it 2-0.
Puerto Rico maintained its discipline after the interval, continuing to press the game with organisation and energy rather than allowing Dominica a route back into the contest. The two-goal advantage remained intact through the final whistle.
The result gives Puerto Rico three points and second position in the four-team section. Its next Nations League assignments come against the Cayman Islands, first in George Town on 1 October and then at Estadio Centroamericano in Mayagüez, western Puerto Rico, on 4 October.
League B Group A is one of four groups in a 16-team division. Each group winner will be promoted to League A, while the bottom side in every group will go down to League C. The four group winners also qualify directly for the 2027 Concacaf Gold Cup, with the two best runners-up entering the preliminary round.
