Rangers Honor FDNY and NYPD Hockey Teams in 9/11 Garden Tribute

Madison Square Garden marked the Rangers’ first home date after the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks with a pregame salute to the first responders whose work helped carry New York City through the tragedy and continues to protect it.

First responders line the ice at the Garden

Before the Rangers took the ice for introductions, members of the FDNY and NYPD hockey teams formed a line along the boards at Madison Square Garden. The ceremony placed the city’s police officers and firefighters at the center of the pregame moment as the home crowd welcomed New York’s players.

  • FDNY hockey team members participated in the on-ice tribute.
  • NYPD hockey team members also lined the rink for player introductions.
  • The recognition came in the Rangers’ first home game following the 25th anniversary of September 11.

Rangers recognize courage and service

The club also shared a message honoring the first responders who answered the call during the attacks, while recognizing those still serving the city.

“Tonight we honor the courage, sacrifice and service of the first responders who answered the call and all of those who continue to protect our city,” the Rangers said.

A Garden remembrance

The tribute connected a Rangers game night with a moment that remains central to New York’s history. With FDNY and NYPD representatives on the ice, the Garden crowd paused before puck drop to recognize the people whose service has shaped the city in the years since September 11.
