RC Lens Sack Dino Toppmöller, Yannick Cahuzac to Face Monaco

RC Lens have made a rapid change in the autumn darkness, ending Dino Toppmöller’s spell after only six matches in charge. Assistant coach Yannick Cahuzac will take the team for the Ligue 1 meeting with Monaco.

Lens dismiss Dino Toppmöller after six games in charge

Topmöller, 45, has been removed from his position only months after arriving in Artois as Pierre Sage’s successor. The German coach’s two assistants have also left the club.

Quick facts

  • Dino Toppmöller was dismissed after six matches as Lens coach.
  • Yannick Cahuzac will lead the side against Monaco in Ligue 1 at 20:45.
  • Lens collected four points from their first four league fixtures under Toppmöller.
  • His short tenure included a 1-0 Trophée des Champions win over PSG.
  • Lens also beat Slavia Prague 3-2 in the Champions League.

The club said its decision followed extensive discussions over the squad’s daily life, the staff’s working methods and the organisation around the team. Lens had proposed structural changes to the coaching set-up, but said those changes could not be agreed with Toppmöller.

“The club therefore took responsibility for ending his mission, along with those of his two assistants,” Lens said in its statement.

The results offered a sharply mixed picture. Lens lifted the Trophée des Champions by defeating Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 and later earned a 3-2 Champions League victory against Slavia Prague.

League form, however, brought only four points from four rounds. Cahuzac now steps into the spotlight for the Monaco match, with Lens turning to an internal solution as the fifth Ligue 1 matchday approaches.
