Serie A Matchday 6: Best Goalkeepers to Pick for Fantasy Football

Serie A’s sixth round arrives with several goalkeepers carrying more than the usual weight of a weekend. Inter, Atalanta, Fiorentina and Lecce each face opponents struggling for attacking output, but the wider context is just as important: coaching changes, unsettled starts and the need to establish a reliable defensive base.

Quick facts

  • Inter host Parma at San Siro after conceding eight league goals; Parma have scored four.
  • Josep Martinez has been called up by Spain during the Nations League window.
  • Atalanta welcome Venezia to the Newbalance Arena, with Venezia having scored four goals.
  • Genoa are second from bottom on one point, with three goals scored.
  • Bologna have scored three times in five matches and recently changed coach.

Josep Martinez heads into Inter’s meeting with Parma looking to consolidate his place between the posts. The Spanish goalkeeper has had a few uncertain moments against Napoli and Udinese, yet his overall contribution has been encouraging and has been recognised with a Spain call-up.

Inter have allowed eight goals so far, leaving room for improvement despite their position in the championship picture. Cristian Chivu may also consider rotation, making Provedel, available at one credit, a useful alternative within the Nerazzurri goalkeeper group.

Parma travel to Milan having replaced their coach, with Alberto Gilardino now asked to give greater bite to an attack that has managed only four goals. A change in the dugout can alter the rhythm of a season, but the immediate task is clear: Parma must find a way to turn possession and territory into chances.

Atalanta, meanwhile, continue to lean on Marco Carnesecchi after a difficult opening phase. The goalkeeper remains among the more dependable figures in the Bergamo side, even as the team have conceded seven times.

Venezia’s visit to the Newbalance Arena presents another test of Atalanta’s defensive authority. The visitors are chasing points and have scored four goals to date, so Carnesecchi’s command of the penalty area could again be central to a side seeking steadier ground.

David de Gea’s recent rise has followed Fiorentina’s broader improvement under Paolo Vanoli. After the troubled start under Fabio Grosso, when the team conceded nine goals across its first three matches, Fiorentina have let in only three over the following two games.

The trip to Genoa offers a chance to continue that correction. Daniele De Rossi’s Genoa sit next to last with one point and just three goals scored, a difficult position that places pressure on the Rossoblu to change the mood quickly.

At the Via del Mare, Wladimiro Falcone remains one of Lecce’s clearest reference points. Lecce come into the Bologna match after defeat at San Siro against Milan, but their route towards safety will depend heavily on what they can build in home fixtures.

Bologna arrive after a coaching change of their own, the new man having begun with a draw against Torino. With only three goals from five league games, the Emilian club have shown the same attacking shortage affecting several sides at this stage of the campaign.

For Eusebio Di Francesco’s Lecce, Falcone’s consistency offers a measure of security while the team searches for points. In a sixth round shaped by new coaches and blunt attacks, the goalkeepers may again define the margins of Sunday afternoon.
