Glasgow offered little shelter for Sébastien Pocognoli on Tuesday night. The former Monaco coach saw Scotland reduced to 10 men inside 11 minutes and then swept aside 3-0 by a Switzerland side already setting the pace in Nations League Division B.
Switzerland take control in Glasgow
- Scotland lost Jack Hendry in the 11th minute after he pulled back Dan Ndoye and then pushed the Swiss forward from behind on the edge of the penalty area.
- Ricardo Rodriguez converted the resulting free-kick a minute later to give Switzerland an immediate advantage.
- The visitors controlled the contest throughout, producing 23 attempts while Scotland managed only two.
- Nico Elvedi doubled the lead in the 55th minute, shortly before the hour mark.
- Zeki Amdouni completed the 3-0 result in the 82nd minute.
It was Switzerland’s second convincing win of the campaign, following their 3-0 success against North Macedonia. With six points from two fixtures, they lead Group 1 in Division B.
Pocognoli, who previously coached Monaco, is still awaiting his first victory in charge of Scotland. His team began with a 0-0 draw away to Slovenia before this heavy home defeat.
Slovenia remain in pursuit
Slovenia kept close to the group leaders by defeating North Macedonia 2-0 in the other match.
Without injured star forward Benjamin Sesko, Slovenia still had the greater control, though the breakthrough did not arrive until after half-time.
- Udinese midfielder Sandi Lovric opened the scoring in the 55th minute.
- Aljosa Matko added the second goal in the 82nd minute to secure the points.
Slovenia now have four points and will meet Switzerland on Saturday in a fixture that could quickly reshape the top of the group.
