In Barranquilla, where Teófilo Gutiérrez has added another domestic title to a career that has crossed South American football, the Colombian forward is preparing to bring his playing days to a close.
Gutiérrez, who won the local championship with Junior this year, will be honoured in a farewell match on 19 December. The occasion is set to mark the retirement of a forward whose career included a title-winning spell at River Plate under Marcelo Gallardo.
“It is not easy to say goodbye,” Gutiérrez said as plans for the tribute were confirmed.
The December match will offer a final stage for one of Colombia’s best-known attacking figures, ending a career that has taken him from the Caribbean coast to Buenos Aires and back again, with his latest silverware arriving in Junior colours.
