Southampton head coach Tonda Eckert has received a suspended six-week ban and a £28,000 fine after admitting to permitting the observation of opponents’ training sessions last season.
The Ligue 1 news
The 33-year-old Southampton manager was punished by an independent regulatory commission after being charged by the Football Association in July over the “spygate” case.
Eckert accepted that training sessions involving Oxford United, Ipswich Town and Middlesbrough had been watched with his authorisation during the previous campaign. His six-week touchline suspension has been suspended until the end of the 2027-28 season, meaning he can remain in the technical area on matchdays for now.
The financial penalty is set at £28,000, equivalent to around €33,000.
Southampton had already faced sporting sanctions in connection with the case. The club was excluded from the Championship play-off final and began the current season with a four-point deduction.
Next appointment in France
Southampton are 13th in the Championship table after eight matches, with 10 points. Their next fixture is at home to Portsmouth on Sunday.
