Torino Hope Che Adams Returns for Udinese Clash

Torino’s work during the international break has centred on one question: whether Che Adams can be returned to Ignazio Abate’s squad in time for the Serie A restart against Udinese on Monday 12 October.

There is no final clearance yet, but the Scottish forward is making encouraging progress after the left-thigh adductor injury sustained in training on 10 September. By the Udinese fixture, nearly a month will have passed since the setback.

Quick facts

  • Che Adams was injured in a Torino training session on 10 September.
  • The diagnosis was a low-grade strain to the adductor muscles of his left thigh.
  • Torino host Udinese on Monday 12 October after the league break.
  • Adams scored twice across Torino’s opening three Serie A matches.
  • The club hope he can rejoin full group training during the coming week.

Adams has completed the first stage of his rehabilitation programme, which has involved rest, treatment, cryotherapy, cryosauna work and pool sessions. Torino’s medical staff have now moved him on to a personalised series of increasingly demanding daily tests.

The results so far have offered grounds for confidence, even if it remains too soon to say that the striker is ready to train normally with his team-mates. The expectation within the club is that he could be back with the group within seven days.

Abate and Torino are not intending to rush a muscular injury. The priority is to restore Adams properly rather than set an artificial deadline, although the first match after the pause is clearly the target in the recovery plan.

His absence has been felt because of the start he made to the campaign. Adams struck twice in the first three league rounds: he opened his Torino account against Milan, then produced the winning goal away to Fiorentina after the trip to Sassuolo.

Both finishes underlined his early importance, with difficult acrobatic efforts adding to an encouraging opening spell. Having him available again for Udinese would give Torino an immediate attacking lift at the point the season resumes.

If Adams is fit, Abate could have the option of deploying Nikola Vlasic behind two recognised forwards, with Adams alongside Giovanni Simeone. For now, the mood around the Filadelfia is positive, but the final decision will depend on the next steps of the striker’s recovery.
