From England’s post-World Cup reset, Thomas Tuchel has named his first squad and left Harry Maguire outside it again, turning a selection decision into the main point of tension around the national team camp.
The England manager addressed Maguire’s public reaction for the first time on Friday. The Manchester United defender had said he learned of his World Cup omission during an “embarrassing” video call, but Tuchel made clear that he disapproved of the way the matter was aired.
Maguire remains absent as England move into their first international window after the tournament. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Cole Palmer are back in the group after missing the World Cup.

Up front, captain Harry Kane is joined by Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Eberechi Eze, Anthony Gordon, Rio Ngumoha, Marcus Rashford, Morgan Rogers and Bukayo Saka. Maguire’s continued exclusion, however, ensures the spotlight will remain on the defence as England begin their next chapter.
