Chicago Bears backup quarterback Tyson Bagent has cleared concussion protocol and is set to practice Saturday, giving the club another available passer as it prepares for Monday night’s matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles.
What changed for the franchise
Bagent had been in the league’s concussion protocol since Tuesday, leaving his availability uncertain through most of the week. Head coach Ben Johnson said the second-year quarterback will return to practice Saturday.
The Bears still have questions at the top of the depth chart. Caleb Williams will not practice Saturday as he continues to manage the hamstring injury he sustained in Chicago’s Week 2 loss.
Johnson previously labeled Williams’ injury a week-to-week issue, but he did not announce whether Williams, Bagent or any other quarterback would be available for Monday’s game. He also did not name a starter against Philadelphia.
Veteran Case Keenum, Chicago’s third quarterback, has handled first-team practice reps in recent sessions while both Williams and Bagent were sidelined.
Next kickoff
The Bears are scheduled to face the Eagles on Monday night. Chicago’s starting quarterback decision remains unresolved entering the final practice preparations.
