French football’s players’ union has gained another voice on the global stage, with Stéphane Burchkalter appointed as FIFPRO’s new general secretary after the organisation’s World Board meeting in Buenos Aires.

The move
Burchkalter takes charge as general secretary of FIFPRO, the worldwide union representing professional male and female footballers. His appointment was confirmed last week in the Argentine capital.
He arrives in the role with extensive experience inside the union movement. Burchkalter leads the legal department at France’s UNFP, the professional players’ union, and had already served as FIFPRO deputy general secretary. He was also general secretary of the organisation’s Africa division.
The appointment puts another French figure in a prominent position within international player representation.

David Terrier, president of both FIFPRO Europe and the UNFP, welcomed Burchkalter’s promotion. Terrier described it as a major source of pride for the French union and said the recognition was fully deserved.
