The result was Brazil’s first win since their disappointing 2026 World Cup exit, three months ago, when Norway eliminated them in the round of 16. It also closed the Australian leg of a three-match tour that had begun with a 1-1 draw in Townsville last week.

Brazil were sharp from the opening minutes. Monaco right-back Vanderson struck in the third minute, then forced Australia goalkeeper Patrick Beach into two further early saves as the visitors pressed their early advantage.
The Socceroos recovered through set-piece pressure and long-range ambition. Circati headed in following a corner on 28 minutes, before Metcalfe put Australia ahead five minutes later with a shot from distance.
Australia were close to reaching the interval in front, but Danilo went down in the area while challenging Harry Souttar. Brazil were awarded a penalty and Raphinha made it 2-2 from the spot.
Endrick replaced Raphinha early in the second half, while Nestory Irankunda found promising positions for Australia without taking the opportunities available to him.
A flashpoint by the Australian bench
With the score still level midway through the second half, tempers rose beside the pitch. Australia captain Souttar and Endrick became involved in pushing and grappling near the home bench, drawing players from both teams into the dispute.
Endrick ended up on the ground, with a member of Australia’s coaching staff standing off-balance above him. Order returned quickly, but Brazil responded with greater purpose once play resumed.
The move that broke the contest began around halfway. Vinícius drove forward down the left and rolled the ball into Endrick, whose delivery found Bruno Guimarães for a close-range finish in the 69th minute.
Vinícius then settled the contest from the penalty spot on 80 minutes. His role in the third goal and his own late finish gave Brazil a four-goal return after an evening that had repeatedly swung in Australia’s favour.
Ancelotti’s new cycle moves east
Ancelotti has used this tour to begin reshaping Brazil after the World Cup disappointment. Only a limited number of players from that tournament squad were selected, with several younger prospects included ahead of their potential eligibility for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
Brazil now travel to Kolkata for an historic first meeting with India, taking their rebuilt squad from Queensland to another corner of the international game.
