Vox Urges FIFA to Remove Morocco from 2030 World Cup Hosting Plan

Spain’s 2030 World Cup co-hosting plan has become the subject of a parliamentary dispute after Vox submitted a non-binding motion calling on the government to ask FIFA to remove Morocco from the tournament’s organising group.

Vox challenges Morocco’s place in the 2030 plan

The proposal follows the mass arrival of migrants in Ceuta on 30 and 31 July. Vox described the events as a “hybrid war” directed at Spain and argued that they had undermined the trust required for a joint World Cup project.

  • The 2030 World Cup is scheduled to be shared by Spain, Portugal and Morocco.
  • Vox wants the Spanish government to urge FIFA to exclude Morocco from the hosting arrangement.
  • The party said co-hosts of an event of this scale must provide security, stability and a relationship based on cooperation and mutual loyalty.
  • It argued that the Ceuta events had destroyed the confidence on which a shared candidacy must rest.

Vox characterised the migrant crossings over little more than 24 hours as an exceptionally serious attack. Citing security experts, the party said such actions fitted the pattern of so-called hybrid warfare strategies.

Claims over security and cooperation

In its motion, Vox accused Morocco of using migration as a coercive tool against Spain rather than acting as a dependable neighbour. The party said this called into question Morocco’s suitability not only for staging a World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal, but also for wider bilateral cooperation.

The parliamentary initiative places a political dispute alongside a tournament calendar that remains centred on the three-country 2030 hosting framework. No change to Morocco’s status as a co-host has been confirmed by FIFA.

Final venue reports also raised in parliament

Vox also referred to concern over FIFA president Gianni Infantino and reports that Rabat had been offered the chance to stage the World Cup final. FIFA has denied that claim.

The question of Morocco’s hosting role has also reached Congress through another route. Izquierda Unida has presented a separate non-binding proposal, likewise arguing that Morocco does not offer sufficient guarantees to serve as a World Cup venue after what it also termed a hybrid attack against Spain.
